Videonet was a program of video installation and performance activities held at the Alberta College of Art Gallery between1978 and 1980. This catalogue, which represents the program, contains statements or interviews (conducted by Marcella Biernvenue) with Canadian, U.S. and European artists who participated in the program.
"These works might be about any number of things, ranging from the material and ideological space of the "self" to the dominant social realities of corporate spectacle and corporate power. The initial questions are these: "How do we invent our lives out of a limited range of possibilities, and how are our lives invented for us by those in power?" ...Given a certain poverty of means, this art aims toward a wider audience, and towards considerations of concrete social transformation." - Fred Lonidier
Participants in the program were: Fred Lonidier (U.S.), Dennis Oppenheim (U.S.), Elizabeth Chitty (Canada), Margaret Dragu (Canada), Antonio Muntadas (Spain), Martha Rosler (U.S.), Jan Swidzinski (Poland), Noel Harding (Canada), Les Levine (Canada), Hummer SistersVideo Cabaret (Canada), Klaus Groh (West Germany), and Eleanor Antin (U.S.).
